Description
Regular physical activity is important for maintaining physical function and quality of life in people with chronic respiratory disease. In people with Pulmonary Fibrosis daily activity (daily step count) is associated with better clinical outcomes. However, measuring physical activity outcomes can be labour intensive for researchers and burdensome for patients. In this project we will compare step count data from a validated activity monitor (STEPwatch) and daily step count recorded on a disease specific mobile application (REBUILD) in order to determine the accuracy of daily activity data recorded via smartphone. In this way, future assessment of daily activity may be able to make use of readily available, less burdensome, technologies.
This project will take the form of a sub-group data analysis using STEPwatch and mobile application data collected prospectively as part of a larger randomised controlled trial.
