Dietary strategies to mitigate post-stroke dementia

Description
Over 41,000 people are admitted with stroke to Australian hospitals annually, and 7 out of 10 survivors will suffer cognitive impairment or dementia (a later stage of the disease continuum) within 3 years of recovery. There are currently no effective therapies to prevent post-stroke dementia. International guidelines recognise diet as a modifiable risk factor with potential benefits for preventing post-stroke cognitive impairment, yet they emphasise the lack of supporting evidence. Thus this project aims to provide novel information on dietary strategies to reduce the risk of post-stroke dementia.
