Description
This is an exciting opportunity to undertake impactful research on a novel forensic tool, the Early Evidence Kit (EEK), focusing on its potential to reveal critical insights through urine analysis in cases of sexual assault. The EEK is a self-sampling kit designed to preserve crucial forensic evidence following a sexual assault. It offers a valuable resource for victims over 18 years of age who may be hesitant or unable to undergo an immediate full forensic medical examination (FMEK). The EEK allows for the collection of body samples such as urine, thereby preventing the loss of vital evidence due to time or activities like washing. The rationale for collecting urine samples stems from the fact that sexual assault cases may involve the use of drugs or alcohol to incapacitate the victim. The project will involve analysing data from EEK urine samples, potentially including those already collected and those obtained in future implementations of the kit.
By undertaking this research, you will:
●contribute valuable knowledge about a relatively new tool with the potential to significantly impact sexual assault investigations.
●Gain experience in data analysis and interpretation within the context of forensic science.
